Cinnamon rolls

20160917_181012-480x640

I was made of flour

Mixed with eggs

And  a splash of  milk

A pinch of salt and a drop of oil

Together they became a ball of dough

I was raised for hours

They rolled me very neatly

Into  a thin sheet and sprinkled over

some sugar with a mix of cinnamon

Then carefully rolled together

Into a long roll and cut into six

Placed in a tray

And dumped in the oven

At 180 degrees Celcius for 15 minutes

Together I was baked

Warm and hot was my body

As I lay to cool

Over they drizzle a thick white glaze

That adorned my body

Which was soft and sweet

Together they devoured admiringly

They call me a cinnamon roll

Together

Baklava

It’s a roll of filo

Or you may layer them over

Very fragile Yet crispy and strong

Sandwiched with nuts

And drizzle with a syrup

Made of sugar or even honey

The filo is very fragile

And needs to be handle

With extreme care

and cuddle in a towel

Just make sure they dont tear

Or dry out quick and not over cooked

It is a greek

But mostly loved by the middleeastern

They can be rolled as a cylinder

or made into triangles

Just make sure you butter each layer

So that they are not undercooked

Baklava is a really a devine sweet

The entire world will love its fragile pastry

Stuffed with nuts and Sweetened with syrup20160912_165001-640x480

Fragile

Dampfnudeln and Babka

I was watching the great british bake off bread week last week and found the different varieties of breads the contestants baked really interestedme.

I just wondered why haven’t I thought about these before?

The gbbo is a good show that is very informative and it can help us the viewers discover something new and radiant. The previous series had a puddings week which astound me and made me watch most of the episodes and get glued to it and watch for the next season. The puddings week educated me on how the puddings became into this world  from the very first method of making puddings to the latest trend. The word puddings means “dessert” in my part of the world but in ancient times it has been a savoury dish that consisted of meat which later developed into being made out of dried fruits and nuts with sugar. Whatever said and done i was perplexed at the history of puddings and the part when the worlds largest pudding was attempted in an European gathering to serve the guests.

While watching the latest episode i was perplexed  by the world Dampfnudeln.

Its a bake off and did they just mention dumplings and noodles in one word? That’s  right.

That was exactly what I was thinking.

I’ve seen dumplings. I’ve made and tasted noodles of a few sorts including the instant noodles. But I’ve never had both together.

Oh i was given 1 or maybe 2 minutes to go wild and imagine the dumplings filled with noodles baked in an oven. I know its my wierdest imagination but honestly thats all I Could think of and when the description for the Dampfnudeln was revealed I was perplexed again.

Com’on we were taught to steam buns and cakes in my cookery class back in colombo but I’ve never dared to try it and for sure it was not steamed in this form. Well I was all happy with smiles as if though I’ve discovered  a new technique which was very tricky as well as very cost savy.

Oh i bake and love baking but I do fear those electricity bills but if I can steam and get the same results why not try it.

I googled for a few recipes and tried the babka which was a funny name for a bread in my part of the world yet a very interesting technique.  I really enjoyed making it. It had a radiant look and the outcome perplexed me.

Finally i did the Dampfnudeln using the leftover dough of my babka and made the custard sauce to steam it using my knowledge and the recipe from an online site.

I was so concentrating on paul hollywoods advice that if we try and lift the lid to check the Dampfnudeln it may go down and the bread may not work so I gave the Dampfnudeln more time and finally ended up with burnt bottom Dampfnudeln. Well they had there bottoms burnt but the body was soft and perfectly risen with a smooth face. I am for sure gonna attempt again till then good night.

Scones

Dont you think
They are smiling
Before we bite in
They were shivering
Hence the cracks
We think its happiness
Yet its a mere shiver
That all scones have

Before we bite and destroy there beauty
We rejoice is happiness

As we save time On cutting

and just dab the cream

With a bit of jam
By ripping them apart
So our teeth can bite
And enjoy them wholeheartedly

The Event

Journey

I walked pass the crowd at the metro towards the card swiping machine and took the elevator to the platform. The train was due in 5 minutes.

The platform was less crowded and many faces of busy people hardly anyone who were on a leisure journey.

It was my first time at the metro all alone and I was doing fine with the guide book by the RTA and the help of the security officers.

As the train stopped i quickly got in and found myself a seat in the corner of the ladies compartment.  Yes, dubai RTA has special arrangements for ladies. They have a lady driven taxi as well.

Well i was having a great view of the dubai skyline from the metro as we pass the jumeira area with the burj al arab to my left. I tried to get a photograph as the metro went on its normal speed. The weather was cooling down and I was enjoying the metro ride while strolling through my gallery of my phone for photos and wondering of the event am about to attend.

I dropped off at the emirates metro station and walked towards the bus stop. It was a bit daunting as a first timer but I enjoyed it as I was all alone and exploring dubai.

I took the bus to the festival city mall and the walk to the mall was a kilometre from the bus stop. Finally inside the mall I went in search of the customer service and found jashanmal location.

This was my first metro journey all alone and it lasted 45 minutes. The event i attended was the Aquarius coffee morning and it was my first event in dubai or anywhere to be honest.

The journey from sri lanka to dubai is only 4 hours and 15 minutes but it has given me the 4 years of blogging a world of my own. A page of my own.everything in this blog is my very own words. I know there are many errors grammatically but I still share my own unbiased thoughts.

The blogging journey started on july 3rd with a chicken curry recipe in the year 2012 and today I write all things that I fancy.

The journey was a very long one no matter how small you start always keep your interest and never give up 🙂

The Stroller blogger

I don’t have a picture of myself witha stroller so I drew it 🙂

I started of cooking and posting then i moved on to sharing photographs.  Later it became restaurant reviewing in the meantime I did attend a few events that all had a great impact in my food blogging journey.

This is where my stroller came to light. I started off strolling over the blog with names that interested me and suddenly one day I thought all these names had no uniquenessin them. Then didn’t say a thing about my blog or didn’t reflect on myself.

This is where the new name “Explorewithmafaza” came up and I am sure everyone likes it.

I may have stolled from one name as a shopaholic travel diary to travel and food worldwide and then the recipe writer. But explore with mafaza is the real meaning of my blog. Yes, everything I post here is something I explore everyday or something I like you to explore with me. Explore is a word that reflects my blogger in me. I enjoy exploring for which I  need to travel and as a mother of 2 kids I have to either keep them and go or take them along. This is where my next stroller comes as a rescue. Yes I have attended the italian cuisine world summit in 2014 with eldest boy at age 1 believe me it was a challenge. I know some might have wondered why on earth did I bring a kid in to a masterclass but trust me I did manage him and the class. The people who attended were very helpful too and they all loved my kid. Then I did attend a restaurant launch with my eldest. Later I was perg eith the 2nd which made me take a break and again I attended  a restaurant review and media tasting with both my boys and the stroller was a great help to atleast kee one in place. I wish I had a twin stroller.

I strolled the streets of dubai with my stroller a “quiny zap extra” and now a “juniors” and Ilike the handle of the zap while the juniors is more travel friendly.

Well yes I stroll the streets and roads of dubai with my stroller. I enjoy it but 2 kids for travel is not an easy think to handle so I have limited my ling distance travel. I would go anywhere if i can bring my stroller along and if it’s not allowed I’d rather stay home and cook up a meal or watch some television or even create a blog post.

There have been instances where people used to ask in comments if it was me with a stroller.

Hahhaa

Don’t laugh

My kids love travelling as much as I do and I make sure they are comfortable.

To top it all my inspiration is the news that said a minister of a country bought her 10 month old baby to the parliament.

The Obstacles Enroute

When i wanted to complete education

My absence was an Obstacle

When i wanted to reenter school

My age was an Obstacle

When I Longed-for education

My expectations were an Obstacle

I applied, reapplied and reapplied

To the college of journalism

When I dreamt of being a journalist

The war was an Obstacle

When the war was over

My traditional stood as an Obstacle

it took me 10 years to just realise

All the Obstacles are just for own good

Sometimes Obstacles are a fate

Sometimes Obstacles are a will of god

Or sometimes they are a luck

Just to make sure we found the best

Obstacles are not just bad

They are sometimes positive too

If only I haven’t gone through this Obstacles

I wouldn’t have been writing

In my own comfort zone

With no deadlines yet many readers

Obstacles are my guides

They are the Obstacles of my life

The Obstacles are which

pointed me towards the right direction

Obstacles
