Weekly writing challenge : Freelancing Do’s & Don’ts

Working online to earn an extra income has become one of the most sought and enjoyable by many nowadays with the technology having developed and communication made easier.
As a result there are many trustworthy online working sites that provide services free of charge where people can post a job and apply for jobs.
Online working is mainly considered by many employers to get their work done at a very low-cost. Whereas many employees look for part-time jobs online mainly because they can work and earn during their free time at the comfort of their own home or office.
I have read some people describing that working online is their only source of income and their full-time job.
Some of them who work part-time are women and some do it as a hobby and make use of their talent.
Living in the modern world  where everything is almost a click away and communicating with people made easier with the  rapid use of Internet, laptops and mobile phones it’s never a hurdle to answer and keep in touch with whoever you want.
Communication is the key to success no matter if it’s your job, a relationship or friendship.
Communicating very often helps us build a very strong bond and trust amongst one another, which is mainly important while working online.
Employers trust the person who is willing to work for them in return the employee trusts the person whom he/she works for and completes the tasks he or she is assigned with confidence.
It is every employer’s duty to pay as he or she promised once the job is completed. It is also every employee’s responsibility to take jobs that he or she is capable of completing as promised.
Fake promises and low quality work not only gives you a bad reputation it also spoils the entire community where you live.
Here are some points to consider while working online for employees and employers which should be followed in order to build a long-lasting relationship and trust.

Do’s

  1. Always keep up to your word.
  2. Be punctual (if you agree to complete a task within a certain time period do complete before the said date and time) some appreciate your punctuality and pay bonus.
  3. Always commit yourself 100% to whatever work.
  4. Reply to any messages immediately and promptly (if you’re working online maximum reply within 24 hours) Remember employers appreciate quick responders and it’s also more important for an employer to respond regarding the job posting ASAP
  5. Always provide quality work with original content.
  6. If you are working for a client who has a good ranking in whatever site they are, do not request for an advance payment.
    • Showing people how much you trust them will make them keep the trust (this apply to all relationships)
  7. If you’re an employer remember  always update your posting, some employers post jobs and cancel by simply providing a reason after many days, in that way you’re wasting both parties time.
  8. Employers – always make sure to change the status of the job as selected a candidate if you already got someone from another source (there are  many who just post the job and don’t even bother the number of contractors who applied, nor feel any responsibility and never turn up).
  9. Before applying for a job online check the client’s profile.
  10. If you’re an employer always pay as you promised never ever run away with a completed task.

Don’ts

  1. Never promise something you are not capable of doing and unable to complete on time.
  2. Never request for an unreasonable amount when working online (remember you’re doing this to earn a part-time income and the clients also does have a particular budget for the job) most employers give priority for a reasonable fee or low-budget.
  3. Never plagiarise any content of any form (that’s really a cheap way to work). Technology has developed and there are many ways of testing contents for their originality.
  • It doesn’t matter whether you know the person who is working for you or if he is a first timer, building trust is very difficult and breaking a trust is very easy. Trust is like a mirror once you put it down and the glasses are shattered you can never paste it together, even if you try you’ll never look good in front of that mirror.  As some people say beauty is not in the appearance it all lays in character.  Being a trust worthy person is the most important character you should have as a person working online. The person at the other end cannot see you but they can understand you through your words. This applies to all sorts of relationship.

TRUST CANNOT BE EARNED BUT MONEY CAN.

I really enjoyed writing this article although this is my first time writing an article on this particular topic about the do’s and don’ts of freelancing it was really easy to compile this post. The main reason was I had a great deal of experience and knowledge regarding this topic which I discovered only after reading this weeks writing challenge.

I am an online writer who believes that trust is more important than money. what do you think?

All details in this article are my very own.

Weekly Photo Challenge : Happy

What brings happiness to an expat?
Living abroad leaving family and friends back in our home country means a lot of sacrifice for those going abroad to earn an extra income.
No matter what type of culture you come from we all love our home country, family and friends.
It’s really difficult to stay away from our own country and live in another country where you know none other than a few co- workers and room mates.
The only time when we feel happy is when we go out for shopping or visiting a place that’s really known for tourism, where you get to see many people although you don’t know any of them personally they are all in the same boat. That is how expat life is.
Expats are happy by clicking a picture where ever they go and sharing it with family and friends back home. Those who see the photos also enjoy and be happy with the satisfaction that their brother, sister, son, daughter, parents or friends are happy where ever they are living.
This week am sharing a few photographs on my weekend spent at Ferrari world Abu Dhabi which made me happy. I always wanted to visit the Ferrari world in abu dhabi and yesterday was that day when my dream came true.
I was really happy enjoying a ride in the worlds fastest roller coaster screaming as loud as I could.
These pictures also display a few expats like me who were also happily enjoying their weekend.

Weekly Photo Challenge : Happy

Happiness is a very sensitive feeling that we all feel only at various stages in our lives. Those different stages in our life can be in many different sort of ways either by a relationship, gift, place or even a simple thing like an anonymous tweet.
Above pictures are some of which brings a smile filled with happiness in my life.
Books I love books and one of the happiest days is when I walk into a book store and walk out with a bag of my favorite authors book.
Design and architecture – I love traveling and visiting places that portray a unique interior. Many places I visited in Dubai has amazed me by the structure and design of the place/buildings.
Those visits gave me the happiness of visiting somewhere new and discovering the beauty of that place/building.
Every time I walk in to the fruits section at a supermarket I smile looking at the pomelos which is spread besides the oranges. the story behind my smile is the memory of happy Family get-togethers surrounded by my aunt, uncle and cousins with a plate of pomelo and some salt and chillie.
Shopping in Bangalore are memories that brings a smile filled with loads of happiness which are still fresh.

“Real Happiness lies in making others happy” is a saying which I often use and WordPress has done that by making me and everyone else happy by offering a great new way of displaying the photos in shapes (I like circles) with a lovely topic this week.

HI
Sometimes my valuable readers must be thinking whats so special to call it mine and be very selfish about the above picture.
Some of you must be thinking if I bought it.
Others must be lost with no idea and must have reached this line of the sentence deciding to read and find out.
I must say I really like this picture.
It was a piece of ornament at the recently concluded interior design exhibition INDEX in Dubai.
As I entered the exhibition hall the first item that I saw was a pile of lamp shades on display.
Then I thought that it is gonna be boring and I just followed the person whom I thought it might be useful to attend he is none other than my husband who is an interior designer in Dubai.
As I passed a few stalls with displays of doors I had a surprise and was really mesmerized by it.
I just gave it a quick glance and we moved on. I was so in love with it that I left my husband to move on by himself and came back to the stall where this magnificent luxury harp was on display.
This harp is made in russia. I asked for permission to capture that master piece into my camera which is well worth it as I believe am not gonna be able to afford such a big amount. but I must say it’s really worth it if you’re a fan of music, am not but I really loved it.
there were many other awesome stuff which were well worth to visit and maybe buy if you really can/want.
I am really selfish about this picture although I like sharing stuff I really don’t want anyone to copy this picture which is why I have edited and labeled the copyright badge on the image.

Burjuman World Food Festival 2012

Burjuman world food festival 2012 was held for 12 days. During the 12 days there were a series of workshops, masterclasses, cooking demonstrations, free food sampling and competitions. there was also a 5 day Burjuman junior chef competition where nearly 350 chefs from across the UAE participated under 14 different categories.

masterclasses gave participants a whole new experience bringing to reality the dream of home cooks with a golden opportunity to create a restaurant style signature dish along with a partner of their choice under the guidance of renowned chefs.

kids were also found happily decorating cup cakes. it was really a great joy to see kids walking pass the cup cake decorating stand playfully asking their dads for permission to join the session.

guess the ingredient competition with gifts for the winners gave the participants some fun and a whole new experience. food created by chefs were on display for the public during the junior chefs competition.

The festival is an annual event and I was glad to be there and discover.

I would like to share some pictures from the burjuman world food festival.

weekly photo challenge solitary

The peaceful atmosphere at Bastakiya in Dubai captured through a camera.

A man who works at bastakiya passes by as I capture this extraordinary picture of the display of traditional utensils in a very traditional way.
This place really impressed me not only for the architecture but for the peaceful atmosphere which I really enjoyed spending time on.

Cook & Coffee Workshop by Aquarius

Aquarius a monthly magazine by one of the leading print newspaper publications gulf news organized a cook and coffee workshop recently at jashanmal festival city.
As a recipe writer and blogger I love reading magazines and newspapers participating on workshops and events. Very often I go through the gulf news website.
As a person who reads a lot not to mention only books and magazines but also newspapers, I am glad I got a chance to sign up for the cook and coffee workshop by Aquarius and was selected. The main reason why I looked forward for this workshop was to meet the chef, blog about the event and learn all about healthy cooking.
I not only learnt a healthy dish but I also had a great experience which was my first ever bus trip in Dubai and a long walk all the way at the metro and the festival city which helped me burn a few extra calories.
The event was mainly to demonstrate a healthy meal using Kenwood food processor but I would say for me it was a program that taught how to think out of the box and invent new dishes. Cooking is not difficult nor boring for people who try new things.
All the dishes that exist today was invented by people who dint care about things going wrong, they were creative and ended up inventing, this apply not only for culinary arts even other stuff.
The Demonstration was by chef Andy Campbell a very friendly and cheerful personality always answering questions without hesitating.
A lemon tart, chicken burgers, spicy bread with red pepper mayonnaise and basil oil was yummy. It was different and obviously healthy. I can’t wait till I go for my next grocery shopping to get some basil and try out the basil oil and devour with a slice of spicy bread. It was really yummy and delicious.
The Aquarius magazine distributed a bag with a magazine which I really loved. At the end of the program there was a raffle draw and guess what?
I won a prize it is a lovely tea set by dankotuwa. It’s made in Sri Lanka and I am a Sri Lankan too.
Yesterday was such a Nice day with a whole new experience.
