Low carb lunch



People have become more health conscious as a result restaurants and cafes have introduced a line up of healthy meals which are low in carb or made out of an alternative ingredient to make it healthy.

A few alternative ingredients I use-

Brown rice
Whole wheat pasta
Red rice flour
Kurakkan flour

Ideas –
Make buriyani out of brown basmathi rice.
Add a few whole wheat pastas for your salad.
Make pittu using red raw rice flour.
You can make rotti using kurakkan flour.

Recipe for a low carb salad –
1 cup shredded chicken (boiled)
Half a carrot (thinly julienned)
1 cup Shredded cabbage
A handful of peas
Half a tomato chopped
1 teaspoon fresh olive
1 teaspoon olive oil
Salt to taste
Pepper as required
*Use low fat low salt feta cheese and avoid the salt
*lettuce leaf to serve


Mix all ingredients except feta cheese together gently coating with olive oil.
Spread over a large lettuce leaf.
Sprinkle the feta on top and enjoy.

Ideas to make it with 25%carb

1) Add a few croutons.
2) Wrap it on a thin whoke wheat rotti.
3) sandwich it between two slices of multigrain bread.
4) serve with 1/2 a cup of brown rice.


Smoothie Contest by Aquarius at the Balance Cafe

I really enjoy participating in contests that gives me an opportunity to display my talents.

Whether I win or lose all that matters to me is that I participated in a contest. there are many who feel bad for loosing a contest but all I look into is what I learnt from my failure. life has taught many of us good things by our failures so did this smoothie contest teach me that kiwi smoothie is different but yet not a very good option.

oasis wellness festival at the oasis center in Dubai is being held from the 8th to 24th November.
There are many activities like the diabetic walk, free RBS check ups and blood pressure checks to create awareness amongst the public and encouraging fitness by many yoga sessions and healthy cooking shows for kids.

The smoothie making contest was one such healthy program.

I always make an avocado or papaw smoothie at home but never have tried a kiwi smoothie.

My husband always did add some fruits that was left at home for example he used to add a banana with another fruit that’s available and make a smoothie.

As a person who is obsessed of masterchef Australia and any other cookery shows I have always dreamt of participating in an invention test.

The smoothie contest was an invention test. as many of the participants selected strawberries dates and cocoa I decided to get some kiwi with banana.

I have never read there was a kiwi smoothie but I prepared it and tasted although the taste was palatable it was not very good for a person who has a sweet tooth like me.

What I learnt from the contest

  1. yogurt added to a smoothie enhances the flavor and especially with a fruit like kiwi.
  2. honey is healthier than sugar and equally sweet as sugar.

At the end of the contest I received a complimentary issue of Aquarius magazine November issue.

Kiwi Smoothie


3 ripe kiwis peeled

2 ripe bananas

1/8 cup milk

1/3 cup yogurt

1 dsp honey


peel kiwi and banana.

add to the blender with honey, milk and yoghurt.

blend well until evenly combined.

add a few cubes of ice if you prefer with ice.

substitute kiwi with avocado or any other fruit of choice.

pour into a glass and serve.

World heart day

World heart day is held on the 29th of September every year. Several events and campaigns are held around the world to mark this day With the aim of raising awareness amongst the general public.
Men have the Possibility of being affected with Cardiovascular disease has been a myth now. cardiovascular disease can cause severe illness and disability.
Campaigns and several other types of programs are held around the world to create awareness amongst the general public.

Sleep is the most welcome respite at the end of a busy day either at work or in a school bus. Sleep gives some rest for the brain. Whereas the brain is still an alive and active organ while we are asleep which is totally different to how it functions when we are awake. Not getting enough hours of sleep can be a very serious problem that can not only cause tiredness and stress but also cause a dramatic impact on our lives. Every human being needs a particular amount of sleep. An average of 7-8 hours of restful sleep can hasten cell tissue repairs and believe it or not can help excess pounds at bay provided one cuts down on calories intake and has no regular exercise routine. Sleep also offers many other healthful benefits such as having glowing, radiant skin and improved immune system.

In this 21st century technology has developed a lot that people spend long hours of the night watching TV, playing games and browsing the internet. Some find it very difficult to sleep at night though they are very tired and sleepy. It’s always advised like the proverb goes “early to bed early to rise”. The earlier you sleep and earlier you wake the better and fresher you feel to start the next day. If you find it really difficult to sleep have a cup of Good Sleeping Teas

Honey mixed with milk or tea
Oat meals
Potatoes baked

Cumin seed – know your spices

Cumin seeds are used as a spice for their distinctive flavour and aroma.
It is globally popular and an essential flavouring in many cuisines: Bangladeshi, Nepalese, Indian, Pakistani, North African, Middle Eastern, Sri Lankan, Cuban, northern Mexican cuisines, central Asian Uzbek cuisine, western Chinese cuisines of Sichuan & Xinjiang and Indonesia.
Cumin can be found in some Dutch cheeses, such as Leyden cheese, and in some traditional breads from France. . It is commonly used in traditional Brazilian cuisine as well. Cumin can be an ingredient in chili powder (often Texan or Mexican-style)
Cumin seeds contain iron and a quiet large quantity should be consumed for it to serve as a dietary supplements.
these seeds are mostly grown in Mediterranean climates as these needs a long hot summer of 3-4 months.
