Mix and muesli

We are all bored of eating the same thing every day. But sometimes when it is healthy some don’t have an option but to grab and go those muesli packs with a cup of milk and stay fed. I am not a daily muesli person, in fact, I hate those plain mueslis. I would eat it if it had a load of nuts and dried fruits. When I came across the mix and muesli concept I really liked it because I can mix my own combination and enjoy muesli.

I was told to choose one and I opted for the premix as it mentioned having mixed berries, dried apple, pecan, almonds, raisins and chia seeds. On top of all the entire ingredients are totally Organic. Isn’t that nice? Yes, it sure is a good healthy “Energy booster”. That’s what my mix is called.

I did a 2-day muesli of which day 1 was muesli with milk and day 2 was muesli with yogurt. Don’t frown. It was delicious. Try it and let me know.

Check my Instagram and watch my muesli days for inspiration.soon il try it with orange juice 🙂

Turkish food

It was a sunday while I rushed back home from my cake classes. The very last class it was supposed to be and am supposed to get my masters certificate in a week. Sundays are good market day at crescat boulevard araliya car park and I love the good market for its good food and stuff.
I decided to try turkish food on last Sundays good market for a change. Big borek was in my mind when I decided so, having come across the good market Facebook page and knowing that big borek has a kind of pate I’ve never tried I contacted them on whatsapp and asked to reserve 6 pieces for me.
How my conversation started is a funny sort of story.
I dint know much about turkish food except I knew how turkish delights look. I asked the person who sells at big borek the price of those pakoras and The reply was so kind yet informative. Those are turkish lentil pates sold as 2 for150 rupees.
I ordered 6 for me and my family.  My visit to the good market was to buy those lentil pates. I headed over to the big borek which stood amongst the many stalls with a nice spread of turkish food. The nice lady behind this turkish delight was a turkish lady herself and mentioned she was originally from Istanbul.

She had all her food nicely closed and served all with a care and cleanliness was so vital in her hands.

When I asked her why she named her stall big borek, she pointed over to her apron smiling while she explained that borek means those pate sort of food in turkey and she believes big is good and nice name so she called it big borek.
This nice lady from turkey bakes and cooks all that she sell by herself.
She also mentioned that she made feta  cheese at home and used it in the pastry that was available for sale. I was impressed and decided to buy a pastry to fill my hungry tummy which was empty with no breakfast due to a rush for  classes early in the morning with only a cup of tea.
The feta and spinach pastry was so tasty and crispy, I loved it and am inspired to try my own pastry recipe soon. Those pastries were called pogca I guess its turkish.

I also bought a rotti to accompany the lentil pate and some baklava which was also home made and looked good. My dad loved it so much.

Finally I went home with some nice turkish food and good few words from a nice turkish lady. I forgot to ask her name yet il go back to her stall soon for snack.
She mentioned she does it as a hobby and decided to bring turkish food for the sri lankans as turkish food is something you can not find in sri lanka. I totally agree with her she did save me a flight ticket to turkey by helping me blog about turkish food at the comfort of sri lanka (just kidding):D of course I wanna go visit turkey one day.
Until then let’s explore.

Like a Tourist in Colombo- 200th blog post

29th DECEMBER 2013

It’s a couple of days away from the new year 2014 and a time to celebrate my blogs 200th post.
I wanted my 200th blog post to be a memorable one with a bit more of delicacy, organic and colorful with pictures. I Stumbled upon ideas and books and finally got something extraordinary to post and share with my valuable readers and followers.

A day out with my 5 and a half month old son and my two sisters to the good market at the crescat boulevard was my plan. Let me update you on about the good market.
The good market is an initiative to promote local and organic produce of sri lanka. It highlights vendors who have all sorts of food that display lankan trends and ingredients. Most products are all natural, local, organic and some hand made.
My aim was to eat some fresh and raw fruits with salt and chillie at the achcharu kadey stall.

coming home tired of roaming around for an hour I was greeted with this chocolate and caramel milk made by my brother

It was delicious and better than Cioconut lounges hot caramel.

At the lagoon cinnamon grand

I received the invitation for dinner but I was not in a mood for party yet I decided to join and celebrate the memorable day in my sister in laws life. I took a tuk tuk all the way down to cinnamon grand. The ride was superb. Colombo is even more beautiful at night while the atmosphere was windy and smells of fresh grass when you pass the vihara maha devi park now renovated and reopened.

The lagoon a seafood restaurant at cinnamon grand with a poolside outdoor seating had such a serene atmosphere.
It was really an unforgettable and romantic dinner. A celebration of 10 years bonding of two good people in a relationship of marriage was the purpose of the dinner. The dinner was hosted by my very own sister in law and her husband. Chatting and giggle over a few glasses and cutlery that lay upon the table while sipping in some lemonade and pepsi or the lankan favourite ginger beer was my bunch of lovely cousins in law. Missing my husband and chatting a few words on whatsapp while cuddling my sleepy son I was so happy to own my new pink shawl (it was so comfortable). The wind from the trees surrounding the dinning area cheers and talking of the customers, waiters moving around serving bunches of very hungry customers, flash light of photographys clicked from all sides of the table made the atmosphere even more enjoyable and casual.

The Food

While Sipping in some lemonade the starter was served which took me down memory lane. The very delicious batter fried tiny fishes were the starters with an ordinary ketchup exactly the same taste as mount lavinia hotel in colombo.
It took some time for the main course to be served which was freshly prepared while the customers awaited in the kitchen that was also visible through the restaurants inner seating area and partially visible from the outdoor seatings.
The main courses were served just before my son started crying for his main course.
